Welcome Eulogy About ALS About Tom Fight ALSe-mail me

ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a rare neuromuscular degenerative disease that is fatal.

Tom's first words when told by the doctor that he indeed had ALS were, "Well, I guess when your number's up, your numbers up." He struggled quietly and with dignity. It was difficult for our family...ESPECIALLY for Tom. The degenerative effects had a devastating depressive affect. He lasted less than a year from his diagnosis.

His mother drove at least 5 hours each way every other weekend to make sure he was taken care of and that he knew she loved him. His brother Roy took care of him throughout his illness and worked tirelessly without much help until our father arrived.

Tom was my twin brother. We were fraternal (not genetically identical) brothers and I was 20 minutes older than him. We were close in many ways, and fought like brothers usually do. There is hardly a day that passes that I don't think about him.
